Awesome place, awesome burgers and good service. ..try the Knob Creek burger if you like spicy food! Didn't give it a 5 because despite a number of available tables, the host would not seat people because the kitchen was backed up ? Plenty of wait staff ...I would have been happier if they would have seated us and just told us to expect the 10 or 15 min delay due to the kitchen situation instead of having to stand with 8 or 10 other folks looking at clean, available tables with no explanation. We almost left without being seated. Food was definitely worth the extra 15 minute wait.
Our family stopped for a quick bite on our road trip up north. We were seated and waited over 10 minutes before a server came to the table. Sadly we had to ask both the host and hostess (at separate times) to please ask our service to come over. We asked the server to please split a dinner for our kids to share but when our food arrived nearly 35 mintues after ordering, it was of course not split. Instead of this being a quick and pleasant stop, it turned out to be quite unpleasant. I wish the food had made up for the wait but not even close.
Spirits is probably one of the best atmospheres in Alexandria to eat. The food for the most part is some of the best in the city. The burgers are amazing and some of the appetizers (wings and alligator) are superb. Only part that spirits fails on is their alcohol prices. They are for the most part ridiculous. I was quoted yesterday for a Commotion (which is a 9 dollar 6 pack) 9 dollars for a single can. Which I knew had to be wrong but my waitress insisted it was correct. I've routinely gotten a beer here for 10 dollars or more which is crazy. So I always ask for beer prices now since they aren't listed on the menu. So if spirits could decrease their alcohol prices I would eat here probably for most major sporting events but it cost sometimes 50+ dollars to eat here and have 3 to 4 beers.
To be clear the food and the waitress were both fantastic and five star worthy. The atmosphere and the music, however, were easily the worst dining experience I've ever had. If they are playing live music (and you want to talk to anyone at the table) I would stay away at all costs, or at the very least bring ear plugs. To say that it was loud would be an understatement; couldn't hear the person across the table from you and left with a headache.
Spirits has a great atmosphere and even better food. I now live in a much larger city and have yet to find a place that serves a salad as good as Spirit's half-and-half salad.
